Here's my most recent boy cake, a Super Mario cake for a friend's child. He was turning 6. I ordered the figures from Ebay (they were each about an inch tall) and had him arrange them the way he wanted. I piped the "goombas" and other key characters from the game out of buttercream. The clouds were my favorite part of this cake! I piped them on with my largest star tip at a swooping angle like I would if I were piping buttercream onto the top of a cupcake. This gave it more of a 3D effect that I was very happy with.
